Friedberg JCC Agency Development
A Chance to Build...A Chance to Grow
Dear JCC Supporters and Friends,
As the year comes to an end, myriad charities and not-for-profits are actively soliciting your end of year donations. And understandably so. Here at the JCC, we even put together a cute little video starring me to try and tug at your heartstrings and secure your support.
But all the cute marketing pieces aside, I did want to reach out to you as the year comes to a close and make one direct appeal. This has been such a challenging year to so many of us here on the South Shore of Long Island, and so many are still recovering from the impact of Superstorm Sandy. For us as a JCC, it means having to provide more services to an impacted community with less available income to support it. And as we all know, that’s not easy.
When Sandy hit last October, both our buildings in Oceanside and in Long Beach were decimated, our staff was displaced, and our community was in crisis. But with the help of donors, UJA-Federation, and volunteers from everywhere, we were able to send scores of people into the homes of our most affected residents, bringing food, water and needed supplies to those who could not get out. We distributed emergency cash, helped hundreds of families keep their children in school and in camp, and provided counseling, legal support and help with FEMA and insurance issues to those affected. And we did it all while working in trailers as our buildings were repaired.
Although the JCC is now up and running again, the impact of the storm has hit us financially, and yet at the same time our community needs more. As a charity that works locally – that was here when we were most needed – I hope you will find us worthy of your support. Remember that it’s not just about storms; the JCC is here everyday in the good and the bad, caring for our seniors, our infants and teenagers, and providing high quality cultural, recreation, social and health-oriented activities for so many. So as this holiday season winds down and a new year prepares to bring with it all that is not yet known to us, please consider making a gift to the Friedberg JCC; all you need to do is click on the “make a donation” button below, or take a moment to write a check and either drop it off or mail it. I assure you that we will use it well.
With best wishes for the New Year,
President & CEO
