FSI: Forensic Linguistics

Join Professor Robert Leonard, Chair of Department and Director of the Forensic Linguistics Project at Hofstra University, for a rare opportunity to learn about a new, cutting-edge science used by law enforcement and counter-terrorism. Professor Leonard will discuss how he employs his advanced techniques of detecting identity and other information through language evidence, and how he works with murder investigators and the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit to help solve crimes. You will hear all about how real investigations are doing with this wonderful new science that many investigators now consider their "secret weapon".
Professor Robert Leonard is a Brooklyn-born Fulbright fellow with a doctorate from Columbia University. He is one of the nation's foremost practitioners of Forensic Linguistic, and has served as an expert witness, lecturer and consultant to such clients as the FBI, NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force, US Attorney's Office, New Yorker Magazine and ABC-TV's Investigative Unit. Professor Leonard has been interviewed on language by many media outlets including the New York Times, USA Today, ABC-TV's Eyewitness News, WNBC and CNN. While in college, he co-founded and led the renowned rock group Sha Na Na and with them, opened for Jimi Hendrix at the Woodstock Festival in 1969.
