JASA AZORS: Alzheimer's Opportunity for Respite & Socialization

Tuesday's program is made possible through a grant from UJA-Federation of New York.

 

Fee: $60 per session (limited partial scholarships available);

Adults, ages 60+ who have been diagnosed with Alzheimers's Disease or a related dementia. Interview required

 

Sponsored by JASA, in conjunction with the Friedberg JCC and Temple Emanu-El of Long Beach, this program provides meaningful and purposeful recreational activities and increased socialization among peers. Recreational activities include: cooking, exercise, relaxation, dance, music, discussion groups and more! A nutritious kosher lunch and snacks are provided. Transportation can be arranged for Fridays at the JCC.


JASA AZORS Help Caregiver's Support Group
2nd Monday of each month, 1-2 p.m., ongoing at Temple Emanu-El of Long Beach, 455 Neptune Blvd.
Fee: Free

 

This support group is for those caring for someone suffering from Alzheimer's Disease and related disorders. New participants should contact Gloria Lebeaux, LMSW at 516-742-2050 before coming to the support group.

 

AZORS is funded by The New York State Office for the Aging, United Way of L.I., the Lindner Family Foundation, and partial funding of Dance Therapy Services through the CIty of Long Beach.

Partners in Caring is an alliance between the Friedberg JCC and FEGS Human and Health Service System. It is a UJA-Federation funded project to help JCC members, local synagogue members and individuals living in the local South Shore community.


We provide: short-term counseling for individuals, families and couples facing a crisis; bereavement, divorce, separated and other support groups to help people heal; referrals and information for needed resources; educational workshops on a wide variety of topics; and, organize meaningful mitzvah projects to help Jewish people and people living in the broader community.


If you or someone you know can volunteer or benefit from our program, please give us a call.


The following groups will be offered for spring and require a brief interview prior to the first meeting to determine prior placement. To schedule an interview please call Pamela Lerner, R.L.C.S.W. at 634-4010.

Connect to Care

The Friedberg JCC is part of the Connect-to-Care initiative funded by UJA Federation of New York. It has been established to help those in the Jewish community who are experiencing hardship due to the current poor economic climate. The Jewish community is here to help you.


Many of us find ourselves in need of support - even those of us who have never had the need to access assistance in the past.


Please contact us if you know someone who:
• Lost his or her job
• Is underemployed
• Had a pay cut
• Lost money in the stock market crash and now cannot retire
• Needs to return to work because of a spouse’s job loss


Together with our partner agencies, we offer:
• Employment and career transition services
• Legal services
• Financial consultation
• Emotional counseling
• Supportive counseling
• Spiritual counseling
